4 Days: Antananarivo, Andasibe Nature Reserve, Mantadia National Park

This island country in the Indian Ocean lies off the east coast of the African continent. It split from the Indian subcontinent some 88 million years ago and as a result offers the visitor unusual and unique flora and fauna. Some of these plants and animals, which developed in the islands long isolation, are visited during these fascinating four days.


Day 1 - Antananarivo / Andasibe Nature Reserve

Arrive Antananarivo by mid-day. Drive to Andasibe through the green and luxuriant vegetation of the east. Along the way you will see Merina villages in the rocky mountains. Arrive to Andasibe Nature Reserve and enjoy a night walk to observe night active lemurs and other nocturnal animals.


Day 2 - Mantadia National Park & Andasibe Nature Reserve

This morning, visit Mantadia National Park where you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of diademed Sifaka and Black and White-ruffed lemurs. In Andasibe Nature Reserve you are sure to see the Indri Indri – the largest lemurs on the island. The reserve also contains a wide variety of orchids, canopy, and endemic animals like chameleons, tenrecs, and many birds. Both reserves are exceptionally rich in frogs and reptiles. (B)


Day 3 - Andasibe / Antananarivo – City Sightseeing

Morning return to Antananarivo and continue on half day city tour. Sightseeing includes a visit to Anatirova, the upper town or palace of the queen, the door of the Rova, the royal tombs, the palace of the first minister or palace of Andafiavaratra and the home of Jean Laborde. Also admire the view over the lower town. (B)


Day 4 - Depart Antananarivo

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
