Taiwan Experiences

Taipei

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes, busy shopping streets and contemporary buildings, none more iconic than the 509m-tall, bamboo shaped Taipei 101 with upscale shops and an observatory with a rapid elevator. A 300 year old city, world famous for its street food and night markets, is a major technological hub. Boasting of historic sites such as the 5000 year old National Palace Museum, Taipei is one of the most charming cities in the world.

Sun Moon Lake

Nestled at an altitude of 760m, The Sun Moon Lake, set against a picturesque backdrop and famous for its sparkling blue water, is the largest lake in Taiwan. Visited by the locals as well as international tourists, it is one of the most popular getaways in Taiwan. With an abundance of hotels and activities such as biking, boating and hiking, the area, which has a strong indigenous population, has plenty to offer.

Taroko Gorge

Taroko Gorge is an impressive 19 km long canyon, composed mainly of metamorphic rocks such as marble and gneiss. Part of the Taroko Gorge Park, which covers 1200 sq km, it is home to half of Taiwan’s animal and plant species, making it one of Asia’s finest scenic attractions.

Tainan

Known for its centuries old fortresses and temples, Tainan, Taiwan’s oldest city, used to be the island’s capital under the Qing dynasty. The most famous attraction is Chihkan Tower, an 18th century Chinese complex with gardens, intricately carved towers and a temple erected on the foundations of Fort Provintia, a Dutch outpost dating to the mid-1600s. A number of dishes served in Tainan are exclusive to this region, though they can be found all over Taiwan.

Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung is a massive port city in southern Taiwan. Home to many skyscrapers, such as the 248m-tall Tuntex Sky Tower, Kaohsiung is known for its diversity of parks. Its focal point is the Love River, with walking paths and cafes along its banks, and cruise boats navigating its waters.

Alishan

Alishan, our Mount Ali, is Taiwan’s most visited national park. Also known as the Alishan National Scenic Area, it is a mountain indigenous township known for its spectacular nature. The legacy of this diverse landscape also includes a very narrow-gauge forest train, considered by many of the main highlights of a visit to Taiwan.
