Riga
Riga is the capital, and largest city, of Latvia. Largest of the three Baltic capitals, Riga was founded in 1201. It boasts various architectural styles including Gothic cathedrals. Although it is best known for its Art Nouveau architecture. The Old Town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with medieval structures such as the Riga Castle, the Dome Cathedral, and St. Peter’s Church. Today, Riga is a very cosmopolitan city with buzzing cafes, bars, delicious dining options from haute cuisine to local market produce. Riga’s Central Market is one of Europe’s biggest markets. It is famed for its pavilions housed in giant zeppelin hangars left behind by the German army after World War I.
Jurmala
Jurmala, located west of Riga, is a vibrant Latvian sea resort famous for its wooden architecture, white sandy beach, and vast pine forests. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the old streets of Jurmala or go for a relaxing spa treatment.
Cesis
The town of Cesis is located in northeastern Lativa. It is known for its well-preserved medieval castle, Cesis Castle, which dates back to the 13th century. Cesis speaks of its ancient cultural heritage with events and art festivals.
