Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv, meaning Hill of Spring, is the second largest city in Israel. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, it boasts mild temperatures year-round. Tel Aviv is known for its “White City”, which was constructed in the 1930s, in the Bauhaus architecture style. More than 1000 of the original 4000 structures remain today and have been designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This urban metropolis is overflowing with modern cafes, hotels, beautiful beaches, restaurants, and nightclubs.
Galilee
Galilee, a region in northern Israel, is divided into three areas – Lower Galilee, Upper Galilee, and Western Galilee. It is known to be the place where Jesus lived, preached, and performed miracles. Travelers to this region can view the ruins of the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught and visit Tabgha, the site of the miracle fish and loaves.
Jerusalem
Jerusalem is the capital and most populated city in Israel. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and the religious center of the world’s three greatest religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Old City is divided into four quarters – the Armenian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter, the Christian Quarter, and the Muslim Quarter. Here you can visit the Wailing Wall (the Kotel) and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Travel west of the Old City and you will find a more modern Jerusalem with cafes, markets, and art galleries.
Bethlehem
Bethlehem is located south of Jerusalem, in the West Bank. It is known around the world as the birthplace of Jesus. Travelers can visit the Shepherds’ Field and the Church of Nativity in Mangers Square.
Masada
Masada is an ancient stone fortress built on a mountain, by King Herod, around 30BC. It is located high on a flat plateau, overlooking the Dead Sea. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visitors can access the fortress by cable-car.
The Dead Sea
The Dead Sea, or the Sea of Salt, is a salt lake located between Israel and Jordan. It is the lowest point on the surface of the earth. Many travelers have taken a dip in these mineral rich waters renowned for its soothing and healing properties.
