ITINERARY
7 Days: Vagar, Torshavn & Vagar Northern Islands.
Tour Overview
The tour provides an in-depth introduction to an island archipelago in the North-Atlantic which thus far has remained unknown to many. The islands’ landscapes are unusual and shaped by the roughness of the ocean surrounding them. The region is remote, yet the people of the Faroes are warm and hospitable.
You will get to know its walkable, small capital Torshavn and experience several islands on guided excursions. And you view the impressive cliffs and the wild bird population from the water. A tour includes breakfast in the centrally located hotel and one dinner highlights the Faroe cuisine.
Day 1 – Sunday – Arrive Vagar
Upon arrival at Vágar airport you will already find yourself surrounded by impressive nature. At the airport a shuttle awaits you that will take you to Tórshavn where you will stay for the next six nights at the downtown Hotel Hafnia with easy access to all the Faroese capital has to offer.
Day 2 – Monday – Full Day Tour of Vagar Islands
Your guided adventure starts today with a full day tour to Vágar island. You will be picked up at the hotel. Take in the beautiful scenery while a guide explains the places you pass. On the tour you will seenature such as the lake Sørvágsvatn, also known as “the lake above the ocean”, the statue Nykurin, Bøur, Tindhólmur, Drangarnir and the beautiful waterfall Múlafossur.
Day 3 – Tuesday – Vagar Sightseeing
Today you will visit the heart of the Faroe Islands. See places like Saksun, Tjørnuvík, Gjógv, Risin&Kellingin also known as the Giant & the Hag and the waterfall Fossá. In Saksun you will see the seawater lagoon, the beautiful old church, and visit the 16th-century farm Dúvugarðar with its stone walls and turf roofs. Before reaching Tjørnuvík we will stop by Fossá waterfall, which is the tallest waterfall in the Faroe Islands. Tjørnuvík is the northernmost settlement on Streymoy island and is situated in an isolated inlet with towering mountains and a beautiful black sand beach. From the beach, there is a fantastic view of the sea stacks Risin&Kellingin (The Giant and his Hag). Our last village visit will be the peaceful and picturesque Gjógv on the northernmost tip of Eysturoy island.
Day 4 – Wednesday – Vagar
Today’s tour offers a two-hour boat tour to the highly impressive sea cliffs of Vestmanna, where you can experience thousands of birds and singing sea caves. After the boat tour lunch will be served and after lunch you will be heading to Kvívík where you will visit the Viking settlements. They will give you an insight into how the Vikings lived. There will also be a stop in Leynar on the old mountain road that takes you back to Tórshavn. From the mountain road you will have a great panoramic view.
Day 5 – Thursday – Vagar / Torshavn
During a 2-hour private walking tour of Tórshavn you will visit the old part of town “úti á Reyni”, the world’s oldest parliament “Tinganes” and the fort “Skansin”. The tour gives a good overview of the Faroese history and the city’s architecture. The afternoon is at leisure. Rest, or take the opportunity to visit the craft, and wool shops in the city center, along with some of the cozy cafés. You can also visit museums in the city. The evening offers a dinner at restaurant Àarstovawhich is placed in the old part of town. Àarstova is known for its delicious lamb that has been cooked for several hours. This evening you get to try the local Faroese lamb or Monkfish along with a starter and dessert.
Day 6 – Friday – Vagar Northern Islands Tour
A whole days guided tour visiting the northern islands. Relax and listen to the stories and legends from the local tour guide. Sailing on a small ferry to the beautiful Kalsoy island, where we will visit Trøllanes, Mikladalur and Syðradalur. Mikladalur, the home to the famous Seal Woman statue and Syðradalur offer a beautiful Memorial to locals who have died at sea. We will board the ferry for Kalsoy in Klaksvík, the second-most populous city in the Faroes, and we visit the quiet Kunoy and stunning Viðoy. There we will enjoy stunning scenery. This is sure to be a day you will not forget anytime soon.
Day 7 – Saturday – Depart Vagar
Your guided experience of this unusual and beautiful small country has come to an end and a shuttle taxi will take you back to Vágar airport.
