Day 1 - Paris - Honfleur
Our first impressions of France are formed in Giverny, Normandy, at the home of oneof the world's most celebrated artists - Claude Monet. The Step into a land of renowned artists and royal crusaders, hilltop monasteries and valley castles. This tour takes us from France's dramatic northern shores to châteaux-sprinkled countryside, breaking off to see WWII sites,
explore centuries-old villages and sample home-grown delicacies. vivid colours in every room paint a picture of his life and thegardens outside are brimming with every shade of flower. We carry that image with usall the way to Honfleur. With a harbour lined with a parade oftall, brightly painted merchant'shouses, it's one of the most beautifully preserved old ports in
Normandy - and our home for the next two nights. Bustling cafes and restaurants line the pavements. So what better way to celebrate the start of our tripthan with a welcome dinner together. (D)

Day 2 - Honfleur - Normandy - Honfleur
On the menu today isNormandy's ‘back country'. Wetake the road less travelled toLivarot where a renowned dairy produces wonderful cheeses -and invites us to sample them. Of course, cheese is made evenbetter when followed up withdrinks. So we track the Routedu Cidre towards Beuvron-en-Auge, voted one of the most beautiful villages in all of France.From cool, crisp ciders to heady,amber-hued calvados, it's herethat we pause to taste the fruits of the region's orchards - adelicious end to our day. Day 3 - Honfleur - Normandy Beaches - Calvados

We turn our attentions to thewindswept shoreline, wherehistory has left an enduring mark not just on the landscape,but the lives of countless people around the world. Atthe Normandy Beaches, westand at the sites of the D-Day Landings of 1944. Afterwards, there's the opportunity to pay apoignant visit to the American War Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, which is in a peaceful spot overlooking Omaha beach.When bed beckons, we find ourselves in a countryside hotelnot far from the coast. Day 4 - Calvados - Bayeux - Mont St Michel - Dinan
Time to unfold another layer of Normandy history this morning with a trip to see the remarkable Bayeux Tapestry. The town ofBayeux is a find in itself, whichwe enjoy exploring afterwards. That afternoon, we drive onto enchanting Mont St Michel,crossing the tidal cause way to wander the buzzing island village. There's even time tovisit the medieval monastery,which crowns the hilltop andgazes imperiously back to the mainland. To top off a charm filled day, we spend this evening in Dinan - and it's yours to enjoy.(B)

Day 5 - Dinan
With a whole day to yourselfin Dinan, you can really getunder the skin of this Gallicgem. Picture ancient ramparts, ahotchpotch of timbered houses,a postcard-pretty quay and 13thcentury castle. You'll get a senseof its arts and crafts heritage inthe quirky shops and galleriesthat line the cobbled streets,with talented craftspeopleranging from bookbinders toglassblowers plying their tradehere. And it has little bars andrestaurants to suit every taste.(B)

Day 6 - Dinan - Angers - Chinon
We're deep into fairytaleterritory when we travel towardsthe Loire Valley, a landscapewhose skyline is peppered withthe turrets of castles. Our firstport of call is Angers, once the medieval stronghold of thePlantagenet kings. It gives usa chance to get up close toa moat-encircled castle andadmire a beautiful tapestry. Thenwe move on to Chinon wheredinner at a local restaurantawaits. (B, D)

Day 7 - Chinon - Château De Villandry - Chinon
Our first château of the touris the last of Loire's greats:Château de Villandry. There isplenty of time for us to exploreits majestic interiors and evenmore magnificent grounds. Besure to peek out of an upstairswindow for a birds-eye viewof the parterre planting, withintricate patterns laid out inmeticulously trimmed hedgesand vivid flowers. Taking it allin is thirsty work. So on ourway back to Chinon we enjoy adetour at a regional winery andlinger over a glass or two. (B)

Day 8 - Chinon - Château De Chenonceau - Montlouis-sur-loire
Château de Chenonceau givesus the opportunity to strollthrough manicured gardens andexplore the fascinating museum.While at our own château,deep in the heart of the LoireValley, we turn into lords andladies of the manor with a nightspent in stately surrounds - butnot before a guided tour ofthe gardens and an indulgentfarewell dinner. Day 9 - Montlouis-sur-loire - Chartres - Paris
A fitting finale to our tour is avisit to the celebrated cathedralof Chartres, reckoned to beone of the finest examples ofGothic architecture in France. Itssoaring spires and ornate 13thcentury stained glass windowsare a sight to behold, and abeautiful image to take back toParis where we say "au revoir".(B)
